Social
franchising research |
|
|
The Coalition wants to gain a deeper understanding of
social franchising activity in the UK. We are partnering
with franchising specialists in the north east, Inspire,
to research the subject. Inspire is successfully
replicating a number of social enterprise models across
the north east in the environment, health and social
care, and culture and tourism sectors.
Together we have developed a short online scoping
survey, the results of which will inform our future
work. We invite all readers to assist us in our research
by completing the survey.
Inspire is a development partnership funded by the
European Social Fund’s Equal Programme.

David
Cameron calls on social enterprises to save excluded
pupils |
|
|
| David Cameron at a Coalition
event last
year | | | |
The leader of the Conservatives mentioned
social enterprises four times in a recent speech about
education. David Cameron said that businesses with
social goals can have an extremely positive impact on
pupils who have been excluded.
He explained: “A large part of the answer is
found in families, independent institutions, voluntary
bodies and social enterprises - in society, not the
state alone. Social responsibility, not state
control.”

Starter
Packs Association launched |
|
|
The Furniture Re-use Network has
launched a national Starter Packs Association to support
the development of starter pack schemes across the
country.
Starter packs typically provide
people moving into their first home with household items
such as bedding, crockery, cutlery, curtains and other
things needed to turn a property into a
home.
Sarah Findlay, coordinator of Starter
Packs Glasgow said: "Starter packs projects are a great
way to allow the community to access a re-use facility
for their unwanted and un-needed household goods -
diversion from landfill with fantastic social benefits!
Every city, town or rural community should have a
starter packs project.”
